How is CIW funded?
CIW is mainly funded through grants. Funders include Jobs for the Future/National Fund for Workforce Solutions/Social Innovation Fund, and United Way of Central Iowa. CIW is also funded by contributions from employer partners, including Des Moines Area Community College and the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines.
The Funding Collaborative provides general oversight of CIW (much like a board of directors) and is responsible for approving the usage of CIW funds. All projects must be approved by the Funding Collaborative to ensure consistency and quality. The co-chairs of the Funding Collaborative are Elisabeth Buck (Chief Community Impact Officer, United Way of Central Iowa) and Joyce McDanel (Vice President of Human Resources and Education, UnityPoint Health – Des Moines).
